First Edition, Second impression published 1937, same year as 1st impression.

This is the 1st and only early UK edition published with tolkien's color illustrations. One of only 1877 copies of the original 2300 that survived the bombing of London in November 1940.

This copy has been elegantly rebound by the Temple Bindery in full Dark Green Morocco leather. Features Tolkiens original Dragon design gilt stamped on the front board with a single gilt rule to the edges.
The rear board has the single gilt rule, while the spine features raised bands, compartments with Title and Author inlayed on Dark Maroon Morocco leather.
Has no writing or inscriptions. Pages are clean and bright, with only a few spots of foxing noted in the text block or on the maps.
All edges have been trimmed and gilded, with a foredge painting of Bilbo, The Dragon, and Gandalf on forward edge, and Gollum, Barrels out of Bounds, and Lake Town to the reverse edge.
