Translations of tolkien's work

Translations from Tolkiens work are very numerous. Most believe that the fictional works of Tolkien, particularly "Lord of the Rings" and even more "The Silmarillion", could not have been written in any other language than English. Any translation must necessarily lose some of the subtlety. Yet the tranlsations widen the public able to read the professors works.

tolkien's work have been translated in Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Basque, Belarusian, Bengali, Breton, Bulgarian, Byelorussian, Catalan, Chinese (Simple), Chinese (Trad.), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Estonian, Faeroese, Finnish, French, Frisian, Galician, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Luxembourgish, Macedonian, Marathi, Moldavian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Ukrainian. Hope i did not miss any language! In addition, there are translations on line in Latin, Middle English, Quenya and even Sindarin. Tolkien is also available in Braille.

Since it is hard and almost impossible for The Tolkien Library to reconstruct a list of all these edition i make a call for people to help me out and send me there lists. That is a list of all editions in there language. A first list was made by endorion.org; It can be found right here. Hope more will follow!

Another list has been added! This time a very fine bibliography of all Dutch Tolkien books was made by Johan Vanhecke and Pieter Collier from Tolkienlibrary. Hope soon to get ourselves even more lists here!
